American Girls and their Pets by Vicky C.

January 26, 2021 by GirlAGain 3 Comments

My favorite things to read are nature books and stories about companionship between animals and humans. It’s so much fun to read about an author’s experience caring for a pet and the bond that they shared.

There are many American Girl characters with stories to tell about their animal friends.

Nicki Fleming:

One Girl of Year doll with a passion for animals is Nicki Fleming. Nicki lives on a farm in Colorado that has horses and pigs. In her book “Thanks to Nicki” she trains a service dog named Sprocket and she struggles with having to give him away after he completes his training. Nicki’s mother tells her that she’s turning Sprocket over so that he can help someone who needs him more than they do. Nicki’s story is inspiring to any girl who has a special bond with an animal.

Saige Copeland:

In Saige Copeland’s Girl of the Year story she uses her love of horses and living on a farm as inspiration for her paintings. She loves horseback riding, painting ranches and horse pastures.

Molly McIntire:

In Molly’s Birthday story, she gets a terrier named Bennett and her best friend Emily gets a dog named Yank. The two friends love their new puppies and Molly helps Emily feel better after the loss of a previous pet.

Kirsten Larson:

Kirsten lives on a farm in 1850’s and has a cat named Missy who delivers kittens in her birthday story. When Missy stops taking care of one of her kittens, Kirsten decides to raise a kitten herself so it can grow up to be strong and healthy like the rest of the litter. She loves and cares for all the animals on her prairie farm in Minnesota along with her family.

Just Like You Dolls:

coconutCoconut the dog and Licorice the cat are pets for the dolls in the Just Like You Collection. They are best friends to all the doll characters. Their book collection promotes friendship and features quizzes for girls to share with each other.

Kirra Bailey 2021 Girl of the Year

The newest Girl of the Year, Kirra Bailey, loves Australian animals and travels to Australia to help rescue them. She is my new favorite Girl of the Year character since I love learning about unique animals and I strongly believe that protecting and caring for them is important.

I hope Kirra will spread awareness on how we can protect our environment so that our animals can thrive. I’m so glad that there is now an American Girl character that has a passion for Australian animals like I do, especially at a time where they need our help the most.

At Girl Again boutique, we have so many great books about the unique and inspiring stories of our American Girl dolls.

Hurry in for the Girl AGain book sale, happening now until February 14th, 2021!

Vicki- Not only does your post capture your passion for animals, you did a great job in describing some of the American Girl characters whose love for animals is similar to yours. I finished reading your blog and thought about wanting to read some of the books I have not yet read. Hopefully others who read your blog post will make their way into Girl Again to check out some of the stories your’ve described. Nice job Vicki. Thanks for sharing.

HI Vicky – This was a great overview and made Tess want to run out and read all these books because she also loves animals!
Really nice blog and I liked the combination of books and product.

Our Store

American Girl Store Girl AGain opened in February 2014 to rave reviews from American Girl doll fans, their moms and especially their grandmas. You’ll find authentic gently used AG dolls, clothing, furniture, accessories and books that have been cleaned and prepared for sale at good prices in an easy-access store.

We also host in-store events such as American Girl book author readings, tea parties, and craft activities. Our most popular event is Girl AGain Doll Hair Do’s & Don’ts Workshop. Check here often to see what is scheduled.

You’ll find a selection of dolls: the original dolls from the historical periods as well as My American Girl, Bitty Baby and Bitty Twins. We have new and used outfits for all AG dolls, as well as their furniture and accessories. Our merchandise changes daily.

You’ll also find a great selection of new and used American Girl books. You don’t have to be a doll lover to enjoy the advice books like The Care and Keeping of You, and A Smart Girl’s Guide to Money.

Girl AGain is not affiliated with American Girl(r) company.

Yes She Can!

Did you know that 80% of adults with autism are unemployed? We created our boutique specifically to help develop transferable job skills for young women with autism. Our trainees at Girl AGain sort, clean and prepare the merchandise, price it, and display it in our shop. Our trainees learn about marketing, merchandising, retailing, customer service, and inventory acquisition in addition to appropriate workplace behavior, research, collaboration and decision-making. We have staff who manage our accounting (Quick Books) and our website (WordPress).

Our customers learn about the abilities of people with autism. And hopefully, our youngest shoppers learn about acceptance and inclusion of people with disabilities.
