The Fourth of July, also known as Independence Day, is a holiday that celebrates the beginning of the United States’ independence from British rule. By the mid-1800s, people were very proud that the country, America, based on a new form of government, had endured. Pioneers were coming to the country, eager to work hard and live in freedom.
The American Girl Historical Characters represent a specific time in history, and we can learn from their stories and experiences. The doll Kirsten Larson and her family were one of those immigrant families to come looking for a better life.
In the book, “Kirsten Saves the Day,” Kirsten contributes to the family by finding a precious honeycomb, exhibiting her bravery in gathering the honey and wax, and selling it on our nation’s holiday. Kirsten’s friend, Lisbeth, explains the holiday, and Kirsten earns money, giving her family something to celebrate along with the holiday.
Just like Kirsten, the trainees at Girl AGain celebrate in different ways. Grace, Kaya, and their families have a barbecue in the evening and watch the fireworks. Imani celebrates by watching fireworks on TV. Some people like to celebrate quietly, due to noise sensitivity to loud sounds (like fireworks). To celebrate quietly, you can do arts and crafts, play card games, or watch something on your phone or tablet. Rachel, Camille, and other trainees prefer quiet celebrations.
Visit Girl AGain and enjoy beautiful treasures from Kirsten’s collection. Find amazing items at even more amazing prices. When you shop at Girl AGain, you contribute to helping people like Grace, Kaya Camille, Imani, and Rachel gain greater independence by learning and practicing job and social skills.
