Valentine’s Day is a special occasion to celebrate and honor all types of love.
In the American Girl collection, many dolls have friends and treasure and celebrate their friendship in their stories.
Samantha’s best friend is Nellie. Nellie works and doesn’t know how to read, so Samantha teaches her to read. They become friends after Samantha’s aunt and uncle adopt Nellie and her sisters. Friends can be like sisters.
Felicity’s best friend is Elizabeth. They became friends when they met at Miss Manderly’s for lessons on being ladylike. When Elizabeth’s father is in jail for being a Loyalist, Elizabeth refuses to speak to Felicity until her father is released. Friends can have strong opinions that differ.
Molly’s friend is Emily. Emily lives with Molly’s family when she comes to America to be safe from World War ll and the risk of the Blitz. Molly discovers that she and Emily have the same interests, like the princesses Elizabeth and Margaret Rose. Molly says that Emily can share her birthday with her. For their birthday, Molly and Emily get puppies and matching pinafore dresses.
Julie’s best friend is Ivy. They love to play basketball together and give each other nicknames. When Julie moved after her parents’ divorce, she only saw Ivy on weekends when she stayed with her father. You can be friends with people even if you don’t always see them.
Kit’s best friend is Ruthie. Ruthie is an only child who likes fairytales and princesses. Kit likes Amelia Earhart and writes for a newspaper. Ruthie is a “girly girl,” while Kit is more like a “tomboy.” They are very different, but friends can be different and still like each other.
