Mother’s Day! by YSC Trainees

Mother’s Day celebrates mothers and mother figures, honoring their contributions to families and society. The initial idea came from Ann Jarvis in 185. After her mom passed in 1905, the movement to honor all mothers spread and is celebrated on the second Sunday in May.

To honor the moms and mom figures of our program trainees, we asked them to share why this is a special day and this is what they said:

Camille said: “My mom gave my older sister and me lots of love throughout the years. Mother’s Day means many things to me. I celebrate my mom and everything she has done for me and my older sister. My mom has given me the support and help that I needed. After being diagnosed, she helped me get speech therapy, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. These therapies helped me with my speech and the ability to do daily tasks.” 

Julia said: “My mother helped the whole family, but since I have a disability, she helped me a little more than my siblings, and I appreciate her so much. She is the youngest, like me, so she understands me the most. I can’t believe what she had to go through to make my family and me happy.” 

Lily said: “My mother helps me with learning how to tell time and count money. She also taught me how to use the washing machine, the dryer, and the dishwasher. She taught me how to do these chores because she is teaching me independence. I’m also a triplet, and my mom is a special ed teacher.”

Stacy said: “My mom cooks for me. My mom drives me to Yes She Can. My mom runs with me most mornings. I enjoy going to the stores with my mom. I enjoy watching TV with my mom.”
