I celebrate Passover. Our tradition is to go to my cousin’s house in Albertson, Long Island on the first night. We gather around the table and do a seder. A seder is the order of the storytelling of Passover. At a Passover seder, we have a plate with matzah, bitter herbs, charoset, lamb bone, and egg; we recently added an orange. We do storytelling, songs, and prayers and ask the four questions. We hide the afikomen for children to find. Traditional Passover food includes matzah ball soup, chicken, brisket, and gefilte fish.
I like Passover because it is a time to be with family and follow our traditions.
My favorite American Girl Character is Rebecca Rubin. She is the tenth Historical Character, representing early twentieth-century America during the second wave of European immigration and Jewish-American culture. In her story, she likes to celebrate Passover and does it very similarly to the way my family and I celebrate it.
Like me, Rebecca enjoys Passover dishes such as Charoset, a recipe made with apples, nuts, and wine.
If you want to know more about Rebecca and her fascinating story, visit our boutique and find pieces from her collection.
For those who celebrate, we wish you a good Passover.
