What was it like to dress in 1774? During the Colonial period in America, the fashions were very different from today. Young girls used to have different underwear to help their dresses fit. They wore stays, also called a corset in later years, a hoop to help the dress puff out at the waist, and a tie-on pocket because there were none sewn in on women’s clothing.
