Did you know that American Girl has a new character doll every year? They’re called Girl of the Year dolls and they were first introduced back in 2001 with Lindsey Bergman. At the end of each year, they are retired and replaced with a new and unique girl with her own interesting story. Their clothes and accessories are retired as well and you can only get them at our store, Girl AGain, our online shop, or on Ebay.
American Girl fans look forward to the new dolls every year and are always excited to learn about each new girl’s inspiring story.
Highlights of some of our favorite GOTY dolls:
Lindsey Bergman (first GOTY, 2001)
The first girl of the year, is a good-hearted and funny girl who loves riding her scooter, and playing with her dog, Mr.Tiny. She even plays the trumpet in her school band. Lindsey always tries to help her family when they need it. She doesn’t have a lot of friends in school, but her friend, April is able to accept her quirks.
Jess McConnell (fourth GOTY, 2006)
Another one of our favorite Girl of the Year characters is Jess McConnell from 2006. She is a 10-year-old girl from Michigan. Her father is of Irish and Scottish descent and her mother is of Japanese descent. Both her parents are archaeologists but she’s not interested in that kind of work. Instead she’s interested in animals, playing soccer and learning the guitar. She is an energetic and adventurous young woman with a dream of becoming a professional soccer player someday.
