American Girl has made the Girl of the Year dolls and one Historical Character really into sports.
Julie, a historical character from 1974, loves to play basketball and tries to encourage other girls to play sports. Girls did not have many options to play sports in school until 1972*.
Kailey who is the Girl of the Year in 2003, loves to swim and she loves to ride on her boogie board and she loves to snorkel.
Marisol who is the Girl of the Year in 2005, loves to dance to ballet, tap and jazz. Jess who is the Girl of the Year in 2006, loves kayaking.
Nicki who is the Girl of the Year in 2007, loves to ride horses and go skiing.
Mia who is the Girl of the Year in 2008, loves ice hockey and figure skating.
Kanani who is the Girl of the Year in 2011, loves to paddleboard and swim.
Mckenna who is the Girl of the Year in 2012, loves gymnastics.
Isabelle who is the Girl of the Year in 2014, loves ballet.
Joss who is the Girl of the Year in 2020, loves to surf and skateboard.
So many of our dolls love sports and we have a lot of sports outfits that we are promoting all month long.
I’m not really into sports, but I admire one athlete named Bethany Hamilton. Bethany is a professional surfer who lost her left arm in a shark attack when she was only thirteen years old and she continues to surf with one arm. I admire her courage and her determination.
