Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates Spanish music and culture, eating Spanish food, and speaking the language. All of these are important because they’re all my culture and language.
My mom was born in Mexico City, while my dad was born in Puebla, right outside of Mexico City. I learned Spanish with my parents and siblings, and I learned it in school. I love Mexico because it’s very touristy and I like the culture and the heritage. I like the restaurants, but I don’t like the poverty in the country. Also, I like the market because it has a lot of Aztec art and a lot of Mexican food. I have 34 cousins on my dad’s side and four on my mom’s. I have a big family.
I watched Ballet Folklorico when I was 14, and I had a cousin who danced ballet, and it made her family begin dancing, too. It has some of the same movements as ballet but is not as strict. Each Mexican region has its traditional dances, which are similar to ballet.
American Girl Josefina Montoya celebrates the feast day of San Jose, the saint she was named after. She likes working in the kitchen with her three sisters. She likes tortillas, and I do as well.
Josefina and I have different things in common. I invite you to learn more about her and her story. You can visit us at Girl AGain and find different pieces from her collection. We are located at 10 Church St. in White Plains. We also have some beautiful outfits for Josefina at our e-shop.
